For the Twin Ports and surrounding area, there is no place to go but "up" after last year's economic disaster. Local economist and professor at the College of St. Scholastica, Tony Barrett, says there are signs of hope beyond tourism which is one of the region's main economic engines. Barrett says there are other sectors helping the recovery including health care. He says northeastern Minnesota should see a slow, steady growth this year. Barrett notes that mining operations are firing up on the Iron Range and that bodes well for a much better shipping season in the Twin Ports.
