The University of Minnesota Board of Regents meets later this week to discuss how they will close a 152 million dollar budget gap. On the table are a previously announced 4.4 percent in-state tuition increase, employee pay cuts, a hiring freeze and early retirement plans. A final board vote is expected on June 22nd. Meanwhile, in Wisconsin, all four year campuses in the University system will have students paying more tuition in the fall. The Board of Regents is considering a 5.5 percent increase at their meeting on Thursday. Students attending UWS would see a hike of 295 dollars, if approved, and the biggest increase would be for Madison students who would pay 638 dollars more.
