(Undated) -- Hunters will have a chance to harvest sandhill cranes in Minnesota for the first time this fall. The season runs from September 4th through October 10th in the Northwest Goose Zone. The D-N-R's Steve Merchant says Minnesotans have been hunting sandhill cranes in the Dakotas since the 1960s, they just haven't been able to do it in this state. He says the U-S Fish and Wildlife Service has approved a hunt on midcontent cranes that migrate through the northwestern corner of the state. Merchant says it's a very lean meat that tastes like goose and other wild game.
