(St. Paul, MN) -- Minnesota has posted its lowest highway accident death toll in 65-years. Preliminary reports for 2009 put the number at 403 and Public Safety Commissioner Michael Campion says the final total will likely rise to around 420. Campion credits the improvement to primary seat belt, booster seat and point-oh-8 legislation, plus stepped-up law enforcement, especially D-W-I sweeps in all parts of the state. But he predicts, once all reports are in for 2009, they'll show that about half of all fatal highway accidents involved alcohol.
