(St. Paul, MN) -- Discussions continue between lawmakers and the governor's office on General Assistance Medical Care. The D-F-L-controlled Senate yesterday voted to override Governor Pawlenty's veto of a bill to extend the program past April 1st, but Democrats don't have enough votes to override in the House without Republicans' help. The governor says he'd prefer Democrats balance the budget first, but indicates a G-A-M-C agreement doesn't have to wait until then if they can reach a reasonable compromise. Democrats need three Republican votes in the House to override Pawlenty's veto, but that's a political long-shot.
