For the past three years, it's been hard to find much good economic news in northeastern Minnesota. But experts say things are finally improving and 2010 will end on an "up" note despite home foreclosures and the number of houses that remain on the market longer. Regional economist Tony Barrett, a professor at the College of St. Scholastica, says shipping snapped back after a disastrous 2009. He notes that grain cargoes were way up while iron ore and coal are also showing improvement at Duluth-Superior. On the Iron Range, most mines are back in action.
