(Duluth, MN) -- A one-day strike looks more likely after talks between Saint Mary's Duluth Clinic and its nurses broke off Wednesday afternoon with no progress. The main dispute appears to be over nurse-to-patient ratios. Nurses spokesman John Nemo says negotiators for the hospital told the union their last offer was their best offer and basically "take it or leave it." Hospital officials respond all members of the team must be involved in decisions about patient care. A federal mediator called the two sides back to the table after the nurses last week authorized a one-day strike which has not yet been called. Meanwhile, a planned negotiating session between the nurses and Saint Luke's Hospital in Duluth is scheduled for next Tuesday.
