(St. Paul, MN) -- Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, North and South Dakota has endorsed Democrat Mark Dayton for governor. Sara Stoesz [[ STACE ]], who heads the pro-choice group, says Dayton "has always been a true champion for women's health" and has "a long history of fighting for what's right." Scott Fischbach with the pro-life group Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life says Planned Parenthood must have struggled with the endorsement because both Dayton and Independence Party rival Tom Horner are committed to "abortion on demand." A Dayton spokesperson responds the former senator has supported choice throughout his career, but does back restrictions on third-term abortions with exceptions for the life and health of the mother, plus notifying parents when a minor is seeking an abortion. Horner's campaign says he's committed to reducing the number of abortions in Minnesota by dealing with underlying factors.
