Winter has a arrived and if you haven't yet embraced this wonderful time of year, this would be a good year to do so! We have some of the best early snow conditions that we have had in about 3 years, so it's time to go snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing, fat tire biking, whatever. If you're looking for the latest DNR snow and trail conditions just check here.
For example I checked the cross country ski conditions up at McCarthy Beach State Park, and they are having groomer issues. However the snowmobile trail is listed as fair.
And here is a great guide to get you started in a variety of winter activities.
The website Skinnyski is updated daily on cross country ski conditions and many of the reports contain photos too, so you can see what to expect when you get to where you are going. The website covers a multi state area, but you can find a lot of local information on it as well.
I can tell you Carey Lake Ski area in Hibbing has been fully groomed and tracked and is ready for use. Below is a picture from the trails yesterday.
And Giants Ridge is also ready to open this weekend. Just make sure no matter what activity you choose dress warm, as some cold air is going to be around for a few days.
