Sight Seeing & Nap Time... G-G's Visit

by David Kuharski

Looking for a way to beat the heat?  Sure there's probably son foo-foo, amazingly-simple, read about it in a trendy magazine, things to do... (is it really that simple?  like in a recipe... who uses capers anyway?)

AND... then there's reality, where people don't have all the time in the world to dig into those trendy in-the-now & hip magazines...

For the latter, like myself (yup--I'm a bit of a curmudgeon) there's taking a drive.  Just that simple...

That's what Julie and I did to beat the heat at home.  You might not relate to this, but in the Twin Ports of Duluth-Superior many homes do not have air conditioning.  In that case, it doesn't matter how many ceiling fans or open windows you have--it's just plain hot.  So, while Julie's grandpa was visiting we took a drive.  Yeah, the cost was using gas-- but everyone was comfortable and cool!

It was also another example of taking advantage of the gems in our area.  Sometimes we get complacent about the area we live in.  Below is a pic we took from Skyline Parkway, overlooking Duluth and Park Point.

Oh, did I mention--kids sometimes take naps during car rides, and that gives the adults time to chat, relax, and enjoy A/C.
