  • Shot in the Chest

    Posted by Lauri Quinn Loewenberg

Dear Lauri, I was standing in our kitchen (I am a wheelchair). I heard a knock on the door.  I could see a man was standing there. There was something I did not like about him but for some reason I opened the door and he shot me in the chest. I was thrown across the room and I started disappearing. I saw another figure in a cloak who had a gentle feel about him and had come to collect me. Then I woke up.   - Saxon 62, Devon, UK

Lauri: You found yourself standing in your dream because you must have recently decided to “take a stand” about something. Is there anything you have decided to put your foot down and once and for all about? This may be where the getting shot comes in. Is there something you’ve decided to give your best shot? It is also significant that you got shot in the chest. The chest is where the heart is, where we hold our emotions. Is this decision based on your emotions? The fact that you are disappearing tells us that some part of you, perhaps some behavior or mindset is diminishing. The cloaked figure represents the mystery of this change that is happening within you… but tis a good change my dear, so embrace it!

Saxon replies: You are spot on when you talk about some part of me beginning to diminish. I have been seriously concentrating on improving my health lately. For the last 21 years I have been slowly putting on weight as this has been the cause of being in a wheelchair. Thank you so much for the extra thoughts on my dream, it sounds fantastic I am really going to keep looking at this it is really inspirational.

  • Washing Meat

    Posted by Lauri Quinn Loewenberg

    Dear Lauri,
I dreamed that my oldest daughter and I were in my kitchen washing meat. After a few minutes she asked me what kind of meat we were washing and freezing. I said I didn't know, then reached over and picked up a "human shoulder"!   - Catherine 36, Saltillo, MS

    Lauri:
Washing the meat suggests you may be trying to wash away some negativity or frustration from your life. The fact that the meat was a human shoulder, despite the “Eew factor,” is very significant. I believe that is YOUR ability to shoulder a responsibility or to be strong and supportive, to be someone's shoulder to cry on, so to speak. But you are putting it in the freezer... Have you been giving someone the "cold shoulder" lately"? Or has someone been doing that to you? That may be what you are trying to wash away. Is there an issue that you need to clean up in order to break that emotional ice? I believe your daughter is with you in the dream, asking questions, because your inner mind wants you to know that she is aware and learning from how you react to and handle this situation.

Catherine replies: WOW, That's 100% correct on everything you said! I have been having a lot of family issues where I am trying to be there for some family while other family members just give me the cold shoulder. It's been an ongoing tragedy in my life for about 5 years now. I have tried to work it out with them, but everything I do just makes it worse. I can't just turn my back on them, they are family but I'm really stuck at a crossroads. Thank you for that, it gave me chills when I read it!

  • Everyone Wants Me to Die

    Posted by Lauri Quinn Loewenberg

"The dream is the small hidden door in the deepest and most intimate sanctum of the soul, which opens to that primeval cosmic night that was soul long before there was conscious ego and will be soul far beyond what a conscious ego could ever reach."   - CARL JUNG, The Meaning of Psychology for Modern Man

Dear Lauri, Almost every night I dream that friends, family and co-workers tell me I'm going to die. But then in my dream I wake up and everyone is disappointed and sometimes mad that I didn't die! What is going on? – DeeDee 42, Salt Lake City, UT

Lauri: Your death in these dreams is symbolic of something changing or ending in your life. Is there some sort of change in behavior or other change that is expected of you? Or is there some sort of change or ending you are hoping for but never happens. The disappointment in the dream may really be disappointment you have with yourself that the change you need to make isn’t happening. Your inner self seems to really want some part of your life to die off, not your whole life, just a part of your life. Your dreams will be persistent until you make that needed change. This is one of the reasons we get recurring dreams; the dreaming mind doesn’t like complacency. Good luck!

DeeDee replies: I think it could be that I need a change in career, but every time I get to a point that I want to make a change the timing is never right to be switching it up, mostly family restraints. I have been feeling down about this dream for quite some time. Feeling people hate me and wishing I was dead. Your interpretation puts my mind at ease. Thank you!

  • Alligator Bit My Daughters Foot

    Posted by Lauri Quinn Loewenberg

    Dear Lauri,
Last night I dreamed that I was trying to tell my daughter to stay out of a swamp but then she went in anyway and had her foot got chomped by an alligator. I got her loose and her foot was broken but still attached. It was scary!   - Jamie 33, Virginia Beach, VA

Lauri: Swamps in dreams can often represent depression. Have you or has your daughter been depressed lately? Have you been trying to keep her spirits up in some way? If not, then what sort of treacherous waking life situation are you trying to keep her out of? The alligator chomping her foot suggests she has recently been emotionally wounded by someone with a big mouth and hurtful remarks or criticism or even bad behavior towards her.

Jamie replies: I had an argument with her dad the other day regarding him picking her up for Easter. The argument started with him dropping her off at a certain place and time because he had to get to work in the evening and ended up being about him not having enough time for her. He only sees her every few weeks and it irritates me that he treats her like such an inconvenience. I always worry about her when she goes with him, mostly because she has to share her time with him with her younger sister.

Lauri replies: The way her foot was still attached is the way your dreaming mind is showing you that you are still attached to him because of her. Otherwise you'd probably love to have nothing to do with him, right? Just make sure you both love her more than you hate each other. You don’t want her to go through life maimed by the bad behavior of her parents.

Jamie replies: Thanks so much! I have been feeling awful since I woke up, but I feel so much better now.

  • Black Zit

    Posted by Lauri Quinn Loewenberg

    Dear Lauri,

I dreamt about popping zits on my jaw line. One was the size of a piece of elbow macaroni and shiny and black! So I asked Ryan Stiles (tall dorky actor from Whose Line is it Anyway and Two and a half Men) to help me and we ended up taking a nap together! No sex just snuggles! WTF?!  - Katherine, Chicago, IL

Lauri: It seems you are trying to rid yourself of something unpleasant in waking life... something you fear may make you look bad. The pimple is on the jaw line so it may have to do with articulating what you need to say to squash this pesky issue. Ryan Stiles is another clue. Do you need to figure out Whose Line Is It Anyway? Is it your turn to speak up or are you waiting for someone else to make the move? Or is this a situation that involves Two Men? Or Two Men and a younger man? I also think the nap suggests that you really need to put this to rest already and in order to do so, you may need to approach it with a sense of humor (another reference to Ryan). Oh! He's also a very tall man so maybe you need to be "the bigger man" here.

Katherine replies: I recently re-connected with a guy from college then realized we have NOTHING in common. But he is now waiting patiently for me to fall for him. In the meantime I have connected with another guy I went to high school with but we are doing the "I like you but won't tell you I like you” dance. In my heart I know I need to tell college guy that nothing is going to come of "us" and I need to tell high school guy, "Hey, do you want to try dating? If not, go away." But instead I just sit quietly. And it doesn't help that I still think about my ex-fiancé CONSTANTLY! Understanding this dream I now know what I should do.

  • Alligators

    Posted by Lauri Quinn Loewenberg

    Dear Lauri,

I tend to dream from time to time about alligators. I’m either running away from them or fighting them off. I still don't know what this repetitive dream means.   – Michelle 40, Oveido, FL

Lauri: Recurring dreams are either connected to recurring behavior patterns or ongoing issues. As long as the issue or the behavior continues so will the dreams.  Alligators often represent someone around you with a big, mean mouth, someone who has sharp, biting remarks. Has anyone around you been critical of you or said hurtful things to you? Do you have the recurring behavior of allowing people's remarks to really bother you? If so, that’s why you keep getting the dream.

Michelle replies: Oh my God, yes! My husband for years always criticizes me, says and does very hurtful things to me from time to time. They hurt me very deeply and I cry sometimes. I’m always trying to make the marriage work but I never see him trying, even though he says he loves me. This makes so much sense now! Thank you so much Lauri! I feel like crying now that I finally understand what my dreams have always meant.

    Lauri replies:
Tell that hubby of yours that he's giving you bad dreams so he needs to be nicer to you already! These dreams are showing you that you are constantly feeling like you are under attack. Not cool.

Michelle replies: Yeah, I will tell him he's giving me nightmares. I do tell him how he makes me feel all the time when he hurts me, criticizes me, and degrades me. I also see a therapist and she's been helping me. He's supposed to be seeing her too. I know his work makes it difficult but he doesn't make the time. He tries to avoid it. Thank you so much for everything Lauri. This means so much to me.

  • Helpful Ghosts

    Posted by Lauri Quinn Loewenberg

“My eyes make pictures, when they are shut.”   – Samuel Taylor Coleridge

    Dear Lauri,

I dreamed I was stuck in an old Victorian house that was haunted by numerous ghosts, but I wasnt scared of them.  I was actually using them to try and find the way out of the house.  - Nicole 29, Toledo, OH

Lauri: You must be stuck in some situation or mindset in waking life. Whatever it is, it's an old issue or mindset, hence the old Victorian house. The ghosts represent issues from the past that still linger within your psyche today, issues, that "haunt you" so to speak. Issues that should be over with, dead and buried and put in the past but you are allowing them to still exist. The good news is that it seems you are learning from these past issues or past mistakes and are letting them guide you to a better situation or mindset.

Nicole replies: Your dream interpretation is spot on!  I have put myself into a similar situation that I once had in the past, by cheating on my husband, and am looking for a way out of the affair. The ex from the previous affair and I are still friends and we go to each other for advice, which might be why I was asking the ghosts for direction.

Fascinating Sleep Fact: According to a study by the National Sleep Foundation, more than half of all adults have driven drowsy at least once during the past year; 28 percent said they've nodded off behind the wheel. This is just the people who admit to it.

  • My Brother-in-law Got Me Pregnant

    Posted by Lauri Quinn Loewenberg

    Dear Lauri,

In my dream I was with my husband's brother Jon and his wife. His wife said to me "Don't worry I'll get some of Jon's sperm for you." I was confused but got pregnant with it and then felt upset because I don't even like Jon and my husband has no fertility problems as we just had a baby 5 months ago.   – Carrie 32, Boulder, CO

Lauri: This dream is symbolic so don't let it worry you or gross you out.  Let's start with what you were told in this dream because whatever you are told in a dream is something you are really telling yourself. You are told not to worry. What in real life has been causing you concern or worry lately? Whatever it is, this is what your dream is about.

Let's look at the symbols now. Getting pregnant in a dream is all about working on something new in your life. Is there something like a new project, a new idea, a new friendship you are working on growing and developing? Your brother in law's sperm could be his “input” on something. Did he - or his wife - recently say or suggest something that upset you and that you are now allowing to grow and fester inside of you, just as a pregnancy grows inside of you? Perhaps you need to work on growing, developing and nurturing your relationship with your brother in law... a rebirth so to speak.

Kim replies: It did kind of gross me out, so thanks for saying that.  Something is festering and growing inside of me.  A few months ago Jon behaved in a way that I feel was particularly cruel and inappropriate.  My husband and Jon are now trying to mend their relationship, but I still have a grudge against Jon and I don't feel like I can honestly communicate that with him.  So, my husband is trying to have a rebirth with them and I just don't really feel good about it, but they are the only family my husband really has. Thank you.

  • Snowy Vortex

    Posted by Lauri Quinn Loewenberg

    Dear Lauri,

I dreamed I was back in my grandparents’ house. Grandfather’s floating staircase, the rock garden underneath, sky light above in their bedroom all his designs were so real. His furniture and art all back in the same places, just as it was growing up. Then the doorbell rang with a pizza delivery. It was snowing outside. Several people jumped out of the delivery car with samples like at SAMS Club on Sunday. Snow started falling in giant flakes through the skylight. I asked my mother what to do and she said, “No worries Kim. We have a vortex.”– Kimberly 41, Myrtle Beach, SC

Lauri:  Our grandparents home can represent a part of our life that we feel is getting old. This could also be where the snow comes in. Are you growing cold towards something or someone? Your grandparents’ home could also represent the place within your psyche where your creative ideas come from, because it seems your grandfather was a very creative man. Are you in a creative field? If so, that's what the snowflakes are: your creative ideas. Just as no snowflake is exactly the same, neither are your ideas. The doorbell may mean opportunity is knocking, so to speak. All the samples could be choices that are now before you. The question you ask your mother is really a question you are posing to yourself. Where in your life are you wondering what to do? Whatever it is, the answer is not to worry.

Kim replies: I am an artist. I have been given the opportunity to work more from home and not have to travel as much. I am not ready to make the leap but the road life is hard on the body: lifting and driving all these years is hard on the back. Grandfather’s house was for sure my creative place. Every time I dream about his home I have a hard time waking up in fear I will forget the details of his house. I do have many great things happening so the samples make sense. Thank you Lauri! You are wonderful!

  • Blocked Driveway

    Posted by Lauri Quinn Loewenberg

    Dear Lauri,

I dreamed there was a road block at the end of my driveway.  I couldn't get out to take my grandmother out for a ride in the Jaguar that has been left at our house for over a year (in the dream the Jag had just been fixed to run).  The blockage seemed to be manmade. I backed in reverse all the way to where the driveway splits and goes to the neighbors. I was debating which way to go: either back home or to the neighbors where there is no room for the car to be parked there.   – Stephanie 38, Chattanooga, TN

Lauri:  I think your grandmother represents something in your life that is getting old, that you are growing tired of, and that you would like to move on from. Just as you were blocked in the driveway there is some sort of block that is keeping you from moving forward or moving on. You described the block as manmade, which means the block is very likely your own creation. In what way are you holding yourself back? So you backup, which may be about your need to get back to the way things used to be. The split driveway means you are now split on a decision in real life. Which direction should you take as far as this decision goes? Your dream is using the Jag that isn't working because that represents your "drive", your motivation to tackle this issue  already!

Stephanie replies:  I think this is about my weight. I really want to look better, lose the belly and extra chin. Guess I gotta get my butt in gear and drive! Thank you.

    Fascinating Dream Fact:
Did you know each dream you have throughout the night progresses in duration?  Your first dream will be about 3 minutes long.  The last dream you have before awakening can be 45 minutes long!

  • Leg Amputation

    Posted by Lauri Quinn Loewenberg

    Dear Lauri,

I had this very weird dream last night. I had a leg transplant, and when they sewed the leg back on it left large gaps in the wound so I could see inside. It didn't hurt it was just unnerving. And then as the dream went on parts of the leg and my behind were turning black like the tissue was dying. When all the dead skin fell off a perfect leg and behind was there and I was beyond happy. It was so real when I woke up the first thing I did was grab my leg!  – Kelly 44, Grandville, MI

Lauri: Eew! Dreams can certainly be gross, can't they? This dream seems to suggest that some old, useless part of you or your life has died off and in its place you have something new and improved. Your leg can represent your ability to stand up for yourself as well as your ability to move on from something and also to move towards your goals. Seeing inside the leg wounds is most likely connected to looking inside yourself. Have you been doing some introspection lately?  In doing this you developed a healthier way of standing up for yourself and a healthier way of moving forward... and you may even have a leg up on the competition now!

Kelly replies:  I have been doing a ton of introspection! I am working on building a business as a health and fitness coach. I have never had the confidence to even think I could ever do anything like this - something in me knew this was meant for me. I have some great and supporting friends and colleagues, but as I'm sure you know building something that is your own and not just working for someone else is scary!

  • Stuck in a Hotel Room

    Posted by Lauri Quinn Loewenberg

    Dear Lauri,

I had a dream that I was on vacation in a hotel and I couldn't seem to check out. I became an employee in housekeeping and every room I would go in was a hospital room. I never could complete my job and I was even rained on in some rooms. - Peggy 43, Pemberville, OH

Lauri: Just as you couldn't get out of the hotel, are you in a situation in real life you can't seem to get out of? The rain suggests there is sadness you have been dealing with. The reference to housekeeping and the hospital rooms seem to point to the same thing: there is some healing and cleansing that needs to happen... or that you have begun to work on. The good news is that this all took place in a hotel which means the current situation is temporary.

Peggy replies:  I have been through quite a lot in my past. I was injured, was in a coma and during this illness my relationship fell apart and I had to take back my life and my kids. I was alone for 5 years (healing) as a single Mom. My eldest daughter got ovarian cancer at 15, now at 21 she has had 13 surgeries. Doing better, but you could say we are wounded warriors trying to move forward. I gave up my job in the medical field. Found love again after 5 years, my best friend. Lost my house of 10 years and now just trying to find my place in the world. I feel like I can never get anything done, including house work.

Lauri replies:  Remember, your dream is showing you that all that pain you've gone through is only a temporary place to be in, just as a hotel is a temporary place to be in. It seems the healing and cleansing are definitely taking place since you did take the job with housekeeping in the dream. You are ready to work on this in real life. Good luck!
